What type of leather are they made from?

Following 3 years of research and development, Devoucoux have launched a natural veg tanned leather. The leather is made with biodegradable vegetable tannins. This includes ingredients such as quebrache, mimosa, and chestnut.

Why is this a good thing?

80-90% of the leather in the world is chrome-tanned leather, which means during the tanning phase a solution of chemicals, acids, and salts are used to dye the hide. Chrome itself is a heavy metal which is harmful for the environment and takes decades to break down. Therefore, Devoucoux's methods can only be a good thing!

An overview of Devoucoux saddles range

Devoucoux have three signature models, recognised around the world. These models include the Biarritz, Chiberta and Makila.

Biarritz

The Biarritz was Devoucoux's first model which was designed in 1989. This model was named after the town of Biarritz which carries the companies strong roots within the Basque region of France. The Biarritz is now available in the O, S, or Lab models.

Chiberta

The Chiberta was designed in 1992 specifically for eventing. The Chiberta is an all in one saddle perfect for show jumping and cross country. This model is named after the forest of Chiberta located close to the Devoucoux workshops. The forest has a cross-country course within it.

Makila

Designed in 1996, specifically for dressage the Makila was quickly adopted by event riders as a firm favourite. The Makila provided a deeper seat than the Milady model (Devoucoux's first dressage saddle).

What is D3D technology?

Using 3D scanners and the latest modelling software enabled Devoucoux to create a more sophisticated padding. This allows for optimum performance and comfort for the horse and rider. Using single block aveolar foam, the padding improves the spread of pressure and weight bearing across the horses back. Wider, perfectly symmetrical panels increase weight bearing surface by  30% (in comparison to previous generations of panels). The panels are more flexible, and have a wider passage between the panels to ensure no pinching, or weight bearing close to the spinal column.
