The Saddle Bank are proud to offer the world’s largest selection of quality new and used secondhand pony jump saddles. Riders commonly use jump saddles with a preference towards jumping, whether showjumping, eventing, or hunting. Pony jump saddles are fantastic for young riders on ponies who love to jump.
Jump saddles enable the rider to shorten their stirrup leathers to stand up from their stirrups over the fence to enable the horse to clear the jump. When shortening the stirrups, the rider's knee will naturally sit further forward. As a result, the flap on jump saddles has to be cut more forward to accommodate this. Jump saddles are typically flatter through the seat for less interference over fences, enabling the rider to return to a neutral position after landing. Knee blocks on jump saddles vary depending on the rider's preference, ability and level of support required. Jump saddles are available as either monoflap or dual-flap options. Monoflap jump saddles will feature external knee blocks for support. Whereas dual flap jump saddles feature a knee block under the main flap. This may be fixed or velcro, depending on the brand and model. Many jump saddles also offer a back block, which can help prevent the leg from coming too far back, ensuring the rider maintains the optimum position. Typically, most pony saddles are dual-flap. However, some higher-end brands, such as Devoucoux, offer monoflap pony jump saddles. If using a monoflap jump saddle, you will need an appropriately sized short girth, which should not interfere with the horse's elbow and allow them freedom of movement.
When looking for a pony jump saddle for your pony and rider, you need to consider the pony's conformation and shape and the child's size. It is a common occurrence for people to use saddles which are too long for their pony to suit a growing or leggy child, which can result in lumbar pain in the pony. The pony is likely to respond to this negatively by bucking, which can cause the child to lose confidence. Therefore, getting the correct seat size for the pony and the rider is important. Some taller children and teens will find a jump saddle a better fit, as the more forward-cut flap will suit them better than a slightly straighter-cut GP saddle. However, ultimately, if the child needs a bigger saddle than the pony can take, they need a bigger pony!
Many popular brands and models of pony jump saddles are available in the market. Some of our customers' favourite pony jump saddles include the Arena pony jump, GFS Monarch Pony Jump, Kent and Masters S-Series Pony Jump, Thorowgood T8 Pony Jump saddle, Wintec Pro Pony Jump, and Bates Pony Elevation. Whether your budget is £400 or £3500, The Saddle Bank has a fantastic selection of jump saddles available to purchase with a 5-day UK trial.
